Website Privacy Policy

Effective August 12, 2026

BeatSUD Foundation ("BeatSUD," "we," "us," or "our") is a nonprofit organization that supports research and education related to substance use disorder. We respect your privacy and aim to be clear about what happens when you visit www.beatsud.org (the "Website").

The short version

BeatSUD does not use the Website to collect information for research studies, create user profiles, track visitors for advertising, or sell personal information. The Website is hosted by Wix, which may automatically process limited technical information and use cookies needed to operate, protect, and deliver the Website. If you choose to donate or contact us, information you voluntarily provide will be used only for the purpose for which you provided it and for related legal or administrative needs.

Information handled when you visit

BeatSUD does not ask ordinary Website visitors to create an account or provide personal information simply to read the Website. Like most website hosts, Wix and related service providers may automatically receive limited technical information when you visit. This may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser and device type, approximate location derived from an IP address, pages requested, date and time of access, and security or diagnostic information. This information is used to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and deliver the Website.

Cookies and similar technologies

The Website may use cookies or similar technologies that Wix considers necessary for core functions such as security, fraud prevention, network management, accessibility, and remembering technical preferences. BeatSUD does not currently use advertising cookies, behavioral tracking cookies, or third-party marketing pixels.

You can usually control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may cause parts of the Website to work incorrectly. Wix's own privacy practices are described in Wix's privacy policy.

Donations

If you make a donation through the Website, Wix, a payment processor, and other providers involved in completing the transaction may collect information needed to process it, such as your name, contact information, billing information, donation amount, and transaction details. BeatSUD may receive donor and transaction information needed to acknowledge the gift, maintain financial and tax records, prevent fraud, and comply with law. BeatSUD does not receive or store your full payment-card number unless a payment provider expressly makes that information available through its secure service.

The privacy practices of a payment processor or other third-party service are governed by that provider's own privacy policy. Please review the information shown during the donation process before submitting a donation.

Information you send to us

If you email us or otherwise contact us, we will receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, and message. We use it to respond, manage the relationship or request, and keep records when reasonably necessary. We do not add you to a marketing list unless we clearly ask and you agree.

Research and health information

This Website is not a research study portal, a patient portal, or a clinical service. Do not send medical records, detailed health information, substance-use history, or other sensitive personal information through the Website or by ordinary email. Visiting the Website does not enroll you in a study or create a researcher-participant, provider-patient, or counselor-client relationship.

If BeatSUD later recruits for or conducts research through the Website, the applicable study materials and consent process will explain separately what information is collected, why it is collected, how it is protected, and who may receive it. This Website Privacy Policy does not replace an informed-consent document or a research-specific privacy notice.

How we share information

BeatSUD does not sell personal information. We may share limited information only:

  • with providers that help us host, secure, maintain, or operate the Website or process donations and communications;

  • when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, or security of BeatSUD, Website visitors, or others;

  • to comply with law, legal process, reporting duties, or a valid government request; or

  • as part of an organizational transaction, such as a merger or transfer of assets, subject to appropriate protections.

How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet legal, accounting, tax, security, and recordkeeping obligations. Technical records maintained by Wix or another provider may be kept under that provider's retention practices.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the limited information we handle. No website, email system, or online transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so please use care when deciding what to send electronically.

Children's privacy

The Website provides general information and is not directed to children under 13. BeatSUD does not knowingly collect personal information through the Website from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

Links to other websites

The Website may link to websites or services that BeatSUD does not control. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and BeatSUD is not responsible for those practices.

Your choices and requests

You may contact us to ask what personal information BeatSUD has about you, or to request correction or deletion. We will respond as required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity. Some information may need to be retained for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or other legitimate purposes.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Website or our practices change. For example, we will revise it before adding advertising, nonessential analytics, online research enrollment, newsletters, or other features that materially change how personal information is handled. We will post the updated policy on this page and change the effective date above.
