Supporting Recovery: The Complementary Approaches of Focus by BeatSUD Foundation

Substance use disorder (SUD) and addiction are complex issues that can have devastating effects on individuals and their loved ones. BeatSUD Foundation is a non-profit organization that focuses on promoting research on complementary neuromodulating non-pharmaceutical treatments for SUD and addiction.

One of the approaches that BeatSUD Foundation is evaluating involves a combination of features of music Music is a powerful tool for addressing emotions and can alleviate or magnify emotional states by targeting various parts of the brain. Music has been shown to activate the same regions of the brain and the dopaminergic reward pathway that opioids impact. By tailoring impactful music to the emotional state that an individual is trying to address, music can be a bridge to uncovering suppressed emotions. Together with a psychotherapist, this can allow individuals to get to the underlying root of their substance use.

In addition, music with certain features has been shown to modulate brainwaves and thereby reduce cravings. This increases the chance that individuals can abstain when triggered.

The foundation is also evaluating other complementary approaches to therapy, including guided meditation and breathwork for mindfulness,  vibrational or rhythmic approaches and guided yoga.

By supporting the efforts of organizations like BeatSUD Foundation, we can all play a role in helping individuals on their journey to recovery. Whether through financial contributions, volunteering, or spreading the word about the foundation's work, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those affected by substance use disorder.

If you are passionate about supporting individuals in recovery and promoting research on neuromodulating treatments for SUD, consider getting involved with BeatSUD Foundation. Together, we can work towards a future where recovery is accessible to all who seek it.
